About Us

Batemans Bay Game Fishing Club

Batemans Bay Game Fishing Club (BBGFC) was established in 1936 during a time of immense growth and popularity in the sport of game fishing.

During our inaugural year, our club was visited by the famous US author and angler, Zane Grey, who fished the waters off Batemans Bay and was honoured with a life membership to the club.

The BBGFC continued to grow its membership base and became an Incorporated Association in 1987.

Our current member base consists of anglers from the NSW South Coast, Canberra, the Riverina region and Victoria.

Our club promotes sustainable tag and release fishing with a focus on family involvement. BBGFC is focussed on developing small fry and junior anglers and we are proud to support & mentor the next generation of game fishing anglers. Some of our juniors have represented our club at State and National levels.

Since its inception, the club has run its annual tournament, the Tollgate Islands Classic, which is held in January of each year. This tournament is widely regarded as one of the best and most popular game fishing tournaments on the South Coast attracting an average attendance of 45 – 55 boats and more than 200 anglers.

In recent years, we have also held a members only Tuna Tournament during the month of July.
